Things I wish Jesus hadn’t said

This is an actual class offering at FBC Allen, where Crisana is attending preschool. It sounds like a class I’d love to take – a catchy name with some food for thought to challenge the status quo.

But in an effort to get some discussion going among my 4 readers, I pose this question to you…what would your response be. What do you wish Jesus hadn’t said? For my part, I sure wish he hadn’t said this:

“One thing you lack…Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then, come, follow me.” (Mark 10:21)

Being willing to hold my “stuff” loosely…well, that’s hard. Being willing to leave it all behind if necessary…don’t really want to do that. Holding the long view (thanks, RC) in perspective…not so easy.

Lemme hear YOUR thoughts.

  1. ok.. srsly

The most challenging, and at the same time uplifting parts of Jesus sayings come right after the beattitudes from the sermon on Mount.

But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

    *BAM*

If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

    *POW*

No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

    *THWACK*

For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

    *PLOP – on the canvas*

    Jesus, Have mercy on me!!!!

and He did, and still does.

  2. yes, well all I really cared about in Top Gun was the beach volleyball scene…

What? There was TALKING in that movie??

And what about that whole “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” (Mt. 18:16)

Boy, that Jesus guy…He doesn’t kid around.

  3. Yeah, I don’t see that one in the Gospel of Thomas, so I think Paul made that one up, and induced Luke to whisper it in Matthew’s ear, then had a good belly laugh when he saw it made the final draft.

    That paul, he was daffy!

  4. Revelation 3:16

    Bible in Basic English
So because you are not one thing or the other, I will have no more to do with you.

I wish Jesus hadn’t said that because I have been neither hot or cold and by that just luke warm in my faith and so God would spue me out of his mouth, having nothing to do with me. God…giving me the cold shoulder. Now that hurts.
