Threads of Gratitude: Linen Tablecloth Edition

Tomorrow is my annual Music by DESign piano recital.  It’s a formal affair with students dressing up and performing on a stage with a grand piano.  They receive their awards and we celebrate their accomplishments.

And then we eat cake.

I like to have a reception following the recital as a way of saying “thank you” to the parents and the students for their hard work and support over the past year.  I know for many of the families it’s a sacrifice of time and money to provide this type of enrichment activity.  And I know that for many parents who have listened to endless hours of practicing, it’s a sacrifice of their sanity as well.

As I reflect on another year of Music by DESign, I’m grateful…

…for 10 years of being able to stay home and do what I love.

…for the nearly 100 students who I have had the privilege of teaching at one time or another.

…for a husband who has supported me every step of the way in building – and rebuilding – my business.

…for the parents who have entrusted me with their children, and who have returned year after year.

…for the current 24 students who make up my studio, for their personalities, their effort, their enthusiasm and the way they brighten up each day.

…but most of all, I’m grateful for God’s provision, especially this year.  When I turned down the teaching job to stay home another year, I had no idea what this year would hold for me or for my family.  But God did.  And He provided enough students to provide for us financially.  He provided a way for me to be available to care for my husband and children during a time of emotional and physical difficulty.

As I look back, I can only be excited about what lies ahead of me.  I’m grateful for the year that’s past…but eagerly anticipate the year to come.
