A View of Easter

For me, Easter 2024 looks very different.

There are no excited children bounding out of bed to see what the Easter Bunny may have left for them. There is no Easter ham sitting in the refrigerator waiting to be baked for a delicious meal with family and friends. There are no Easter eggs filled with candy and treats hidden in the yard or around the house. There are no brand-new fancy Easter dresses or crisply starched new dress shirts to wear to church. There are no Easter lilies adorning the fireplace. In fact, it looks and feels very much like any other day.

And that fills my heart with sadness and longing.

But from a different perspective, Easter 2024 looks very much the same.

The tomb is still empty. The stone is still rolled away. The words “He is risen!” still ring true. The victory is still secure. Death is still defeated. The angels are still rejoicing, and Satan and his minions are still reeling. Jesus’ sacrificial death still atones for my sin, and His work is still accomplished. In fact, this Resurrection Day looks and feels very much like every other Resurrection Day.

And that fills my heart with joy and peace.

“He is Risen!”

“He is Risen, Indeed!”
