Threads of Gratitude: School Backpack Edition

Today is the last day of school.  Wow.  180 days of learning…over.  My baby’s first year of school…done.  How in the world did this happen?

I’ve already written a post expressing my gratitude for their teachers and the staff at McGowen, so I won’t repeat myself.  But I do have to brag a little.  Because of the extra love and concern we received this year from the staff, I purchased gifts for more than just the classroom teachers.  I bought gifts for the office staff as well.  And with those gifts, I wanted to give them a special card…something handmade.  This is always a bit difficult, you see, because I don’t make cards.

Despite the fact that Trey was having a friend sleep over, despite the fact that we went to the movies and got home late, despite the fact that the day had been frenzied and frantic between piano students, school volunteering, and duties at home, despite the fact that I knew the last day of school would be a blur of activity, despite the fact that I hadn’t had time to go to the store and buy the special rock-n-roll themed paper I wanted…I stayed up well past my bedtime to create handmade cards for the receptionist, office manager, principal, assistant principal, registrar, counselor, and two classroom teachers.  Yes, that’s a total of 8 -count ’em, EIGHT – cards.  That’s like infinity to a girl who doesn’t make cards in the first place.

After spending far too long trying to determine a color scheme and design, I just had to bite the bullet and make them.  Considering the obstacles, I was fairly pleased with how the finished product turned out.  Simple, yes.  But cute nonetheless, if I do say so myself.  First the front…

…and then the inside…

I finished them so late that I was too tired to write in them, so I took them with us to McDonald’s the next morning for our special last-day-of-school breakfast and managed to sign them without getting syrup or grease smeared all over.  They may not be works of art, but they were definitely works of “heart.”
