Well the Big Dance is over – for another year at least. Though it was an exciting finish, and I can take great consolation in knowing that Matt’s pick did not win it all, things were over well before tonight’s finals.
Our children, despite valiant efforts and loyalty to Dad’s alma mater, were out of it before the “Elite 8”. Coming into last weekend, Matt and I were tied, deadlocked at 54 points apiece. The only game that truly mattered in our brackets was the Memphis/UCLA matchup. He had Memphis winning and taking it all, I went the Bruins route.
And in fact the Bruins were routed! But not in a good way. So, on that fateful Saturday, when we were celebrating MY birthday, I was trumped. Humiliated. My brackets slung through the mud. Matt wins the coveted $25 prize, which, he confessed, was a good thing since he’d already spent it.
March Madness 2008 is officially over. Next year is my year. I’m sure of it.
