Today, I am grateful for new jeans. You see, these aren’t just any new jeans. These were way-down-on-sale jeans. Like $10, originally $50. These were also size 12 jeans. That’s right. Size 12. As in two-sizes-smaller jeans, I-haven’t-worn-size-12-in-14-years jeans, I-was-barely-squeezing-into-size-16-jeans-in-August-but-couldn’t-bear-to-admit-I-was-a-size-18 jeans. To me, these jeans are more than just confirmation that yes, indeed, I HAVE… Continue reading Threads of Gratitude: New Jeans Edition

And on the 7th day, God created…
It seems I have something to learn. Either that, or God has an incredible sense of humor. Our pastor has just begun a new sermon series on the book of Genesis. Cool stuff. Matt and I have been anticipating this for nearly a year and are so pumped about it! And the spring semester of… Continue reading And on the 7th day, God created…
Threads of Gratitude: Lab Coat Edition
What can I say? I know there’s a lot for me to be grateful for this week, but in my mind there’s really only one worth mentioning. This week, I’m grateful for healing. I’m grateful for doctors who provide medicine and care to help sick people get well…people like my husband, who as of this… Continue reading Threads of Gratitude: Lab Coat Edition
In God We Trust
Today we inaugurated a new president. And, in the process, we also witnessed history. Whether I like it or not, whether I voted for him or not, Barack Obama is now the President of the United States. He is the face of our nation, the voice of our country to the world. And though he… Continue reading In God We Trust
9 Things I Love About You…
Somehow it’s happened. That precious little 8 lb. 12 oz. bundle of joy I once held in my arms has now reached the end of his single-digit years.  Nine years! Wow. While I try to figure out where the last 3,287 days have gone (that includes 2 extra days for leap years, for all you… Continue reading 9 Things I Love About You…
Threads of Gratitude: Layers of Gratefulness
This crazy Texas weather, I tell ya! Saturday found us in t-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops. Monday brought ice and freezing rain, warm winter coats and hats, mittens and gloves and warm woolen socks. Yesterday saw a return to the 60’s with a cool breeze, just right for jeans and long sleeves with no jacket. This… Continue reading Threads of Gratitude: Layers of Gratefulness
New Years Resolutions: 2009
The calendar proclaims that it’s already Day 2 of 2009 and here I sit, with not a single New Year’s Resolution penned. I guess it’s time to remedy that. As I’ve said before, I don’t like making resolutions. It’s too easy to fail at a resolution: you break it, and you’ve failed. So since I… Continue reading New Years Resolutions: 2009
Threads of Gratitude: Christmas Stocking Edition
*Â To be read to the tune of “The 12 Days of Christmas”* The first thing at Christmas that I am grateful for is a husband who loves me. The second thing at Christmas that I am grateful for is two awesome kids, and a husband who loves me. The third thing at Christmas that… Continue reading Threads of Gratitude: Christmas Stocking Edition
Musings on Immanuel
In my lifetime, Christmas has been about many things: sometimes, it’s been about friends and get-togethers and parties and being socially connected. sometimes, it’s been about family and reunions and traditions. sometimes, it’s been about fun and travel and new adventures. sometimes, frankly, it’s been about the gifts and money and the wrappings and decorations.… Continue reading Musings on Immanuel
Make the cake!
It’s my new mantra: “Make the cake!” I know what you’re thinking: “But you’re on South Beach. Isn’t cake forbidden?” Technically, yes. But I’m speaking metaphorically. Or, to put it in plain English, it’s a catch-phrase. Perhaps I’d better back up a bit. I’ve shared a lot about our faith journey over the past 18… Continue reading Make the cake!
