Today, I am grateful for new jeans.
You see, these aren’t just any new jeans. These were way-down-on-sale jeans. Like $10, originally $50. These were also size 12 jeans. That’s right. Size 12. As in two-sizes-smaller jeans, I-haven’t-worn-size-12-in-14-years jeans, I-was-barely-squeezing-into-size-16-jeans-in-August-but-couldn’t-bear-to-admit-I-was-a-size-18 jeans.
To me, these jeans are more than just confirmation that yes, indeed, I HAVE lost weight. To me, these jeans are a reminder and a tangible expression of God’s grace. I don’t deserve to wear a size 12. I’ve drifted far from my so-called “diet plan” and have not demonstrated much self-control. I’ve rationalized eating too much junk food and not exercising enough. And yet, God extends grace to me by not allowing the scale to record more than a 4-lb. swing up or down, and allowing me the joy of buying a pair of size 12, ridiculously-on-sale jeans. That’s grace for ya. Truly unmerited favor…bringing my grateful heart much joy.
Debbie – can you shoot me an email or leave me a message with your email address? I wanted to email you but realized I didn’t have it! Thanks!
