Sunday Evening QB (a.k.a. Can’t-Wait-for-Monday Morning QB)

It’s been awhile since I did a sports post. I’m suffering withdrawal and today was just too great of a day of football to wait until Monday morning. Besides, the only games that counted were played today anyway. (And to my dear friend Angie: my apologies. You WILL be lost on this post. I am so sorry. But give me some credit, my last post was on SHOES, so I do think of you.)

We start with the early game, the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Detroit Lions. At the beginning of the season, this game looked to be an important matchup as the Lions started strong out of the gate. But with the Cowboys sitting alone atop the NFC and the Lions losing 4 in a row leading up to this game, some of the luster was gone. All the Lions could hope to do was play spoiler. The Cowboys needed to find a way to win to maintain their advantage in the playoffs. And for most of this game, the ‘boys were outplayed. The Detroit offense found a way to win every strategic advantage and led for 59:42. But great teams find a way to win, and that’s exactly what the Cowboys did. With just over 2 minutes left in the game, the ‘boys got the ball back and marched down the field with no time outs, scoring the tying touchdown with :18 to play. Adding the extra point, the Cowboys led for the first time in the game. And they managed to hold on for those final 18 ticks of the clock, winning in dramatic fashion yet again. And for the first time ever, the Cowboys are 12-1, and today clinched the NFC East title.

And then we have our late game, the New England Patriots vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. With all due respect to my loyal Steeler-fan cousins, it was not much of a game. First half, yes. But in the second half, it was all Patriots. Once again, the Pats reigned supreme and now, at 13-0, are only 3 games away from an undefeated season. With games against the Dolphins, Jets, and Giants remaining, the Pats appear poised to run the table. We’ll see if this team can do it. I believe they can, and we’re just three short weeks away from HISTORY, BABY!!!

What a great day! Well, a great day to be a Cowboys fan or a Pats fan. I guess it wouldn’t be so great to be a Lions fan. But hey, just like those of us who root for the Rangers, I guess they’re used to disappointment.

  1. That’s ok Debbi, I did read the whole thing even if it didn’t make sense. And so as to not make my head explode from the whole sports overload, I was listening to Wicked the musical in the back ground! I survived! Yay!
