Threads of Gratitude: Old Glory Edition

This Saturday, we celebrate our independence as a nation.  We celebrate our freedom, our liberty, and all the things that make America great.  It’s one of the few days during the year when our divided nation becomes united once again, and regardless of our political views we can all agree on all we have to celebrate.

It’s important that we celebrate this freedom.  It’s important that we remember the sacrifice of those who have dedicated their lives to preserve and defend this freedom.  It’s important that we not take our liberty for granted.  And it’s important to thank God that He has chosen – in His sovreignty – to allow us to live in this country where we enjoy the lifestyle we do.

So today, I’m grateful.  I’m grateful for my country and its leaders, even though I don’t agree with them.  I’m grateful that I have the privilege of worshipping as I please.  I’m grateful that I live in a country where women are respected and considered full citizens with all the privileges and responsibilities that entails.  I’m grateful that I can express my opinions without fear of arrest or imprisonment.  I’m grateful for God’s hand of protection over our country in a world that is rife with war, terrorism, and disease.

You bet I’m proud to be an American.
