Monday Morning QB Recap

It takes doing something 3 times to make it a habit, right?  Well, it’s officially a habit now.  On to the weekend sports recap!

The Rangers:  What a finish!  It was neck and neck, right down to the wire with Oakland.  Tied, with 2 games to play!!  Who would come out on top, and who would fall??  Oh, the drama!  It’s been a while since we’ve been in such a tight race in September.  But, alas, a 3-game sweep by the Mariners and a win on the final day of the season for Oakland means that once again, our beloved AAA team in Arlington finished the season in the cellar of the AL West, 12 games below .500.  So close!  We could have been tied for 3rd!  A few bright spots in the season:  Michael Young, Mr. Dependable, once again has a 200-hit season.  Marlon Byrd emerged as a terrific all-around player with all-star potential.  And Edison Volquez, a minor-league miracle, showed what a little bit of humility and willingness to learn can do for a pitcher (hear THAT, Vicente Padilla???)  And now, let us commence praying for Cleveland to rid October of those d@#^ Yankees!  Go Sox!!

The Aggies:   After an abysmal Thursday-night pasting by the dreadfully unranked Miami Hurricanes a week ago Thursday, we hoped and prayed for a return to glory as we began conference play.  Baylor provided no match to the Aggie offense, and what began a semi-close game turned quickly into a rout by the Beloved.  Keep that scoring up, Ags!

The Cowboys: Romo-mentum is right! Sure, St. Louis stinks.  Sure, the Rams’ offensive line is, well, offensive.  And apparently their defensive line isn’t.  But Holy Crayton, Batman!  What a day!  And honestly, who would have predicted that the ‘boys would be 4-0 at this point in the season?  At this point you expect a young team with an inexperienced QB to get a little cocky and play with a little too much swagger.  At this point you expect the magic to fall for one game to get the team “back on track”, to show them they’re not big boys yet.  After years of watching the Cowboys go backward on 3rd down (and end up with 4th and infinity – more times than I want to count.  Remember Dave Campo?  4th and 22?  PUNT!), it was gleefully refreshing to see Tony Romo scramble out of what could have been another 4th down disaster, gaining officially only 4 yards but taking well over 30 to do it.  Maybe, just maybe, this team has what it takes.

And now with the Rangers no longer playing games (their season was over LONG ago), we can turn our attention to the baseball playoffs and the Mavs.  I don’t do hockey!  (sorry, Stars!)

  1. Yes, I realize it was on 3rd down. If he had fallen on it, like Troy Aikman or Drew Bledsoe would have had to do, it would have ended up as a 4th and 50-something. We had quite a few of those as I recall in Troy’s last season or two. We’d have 1st and 10, 2nd and 8, 3rd and 4 and then 4th and 33.
