You know the old saying: “If you don’t like the weather in Texas, just wait a minute.” Unfortunately, that’s really not true for the months of July-September. But the rest of the year – hold on to yer hats, there pardner, this here weather in Texas is about as unpredictable as a bull in springtime.
Take the past 7 days, for instance:
Friday – hot, dry, sunny, near-record high temperatures
Saturday – hot, sunny, kids in t-shirts, tank tops, shorts, and sandals
Sunday – overcast, cool, breezy, a chill in the air all day long
Monday – starts out sunny & warm, kids off to school in short-sleeve shirts, no jackets…but by evening it is SNOWING.
Yes, you read that right. It SNOWED here on Monday night. In our area, we received upwards of 3 inches of heavy, wet snow. Just perfect for transforming our neighborhood into a gleaming winter wonderland:
For those of you not from around these here parts, let me explain something to you. Not only is snow in Dallas a novelty, snow in March is nearly unheard of. And the snow we usually receive is in the form of small little ice pellets (think really, really small hail that hasn’t grown up yet) that freezes solid and paralyzes the area for days. THIS, my friends, was SNOW. Real, bona fide, wet SNOW. Snow that stuck together to make snowballs and snowmen. Snow that skittered out of the way to make snow angels. Snow that mounded on all surfaces, making a pristene and beautiful blanket of white:

The best part was that due to a warm Tuesday, school was not canceled, only delayed, giving us plenty of time to go out and play in the snow before beginning our day. By nightfall, all the snow was melted and gone, the day had warmed up, and we were on to…
Wednesday: partly sunny, windy, cool
Thursday: COLD, windy, rainy, sleety, rainy, wintry mixy, rainy, snowy…Yes, you read that right. Not only did we get SNOW, in March, twice in one season, we got SNOW, in March, twice in one WEEK. And it is true, everything is bigger in Texas. Just look at the size of these flakes falling from the sky:
Yup, it’s been one wild week, weather-wise. Now it’s time for me to go make a snowball or two! See ya later!
Wow! looks like New England and you certainly experienced snow while up here attending college. Glad you and the kids had a chance to play in the white stuff.
The scene outside our door on Tuesday morning reminded me so much of New England winter…waking up on cold mornings at Gordon to a beautiful winterscape. The upside was I didn’t have to go dig out my car! Watching the snow fall outside our house brought back many happy memories of cozy evenings in my dorm room with snow falling outside.
