We are home! All four of us. At the same time and in the same house.
And all is relatively normal!
Matt was released from the hospital around noon today. The doctor removed his drain which allowed Matt to take a much-longed-for shower and put on normal clothes. We made a quick pit stop for lunch on the way home and arrived mid-afternoon. We quickly unloaded the car and it was back to reality – for some of us, at least. Trey and I headed out to sell popcorn while Matt read the paper and rested. Comfortably. In his own bed. Or on his own couch. Untethered to any tubes, wires, or machines that beep.
We still have a long way to go. There’s still a lot of uncertainty, and some difficult days undoubtedly lay ahead of us. But we are home. We are together. We are a family again. And it just feels right.
Just the way it should.
