How easy is the South Beach Diet, you ask? So easy that you can even eat SB-friendly in a hospital cafeteria!
Last week was by far the craziest week diet-wise that I could have ever anticipated. Between doctor’s appointments, dentist appointments, “feminine issues”, Cub Scout and Girl Scout meetings, volunteering and crazy last-minute sleepovers, the stage was set for disaster – or at the very least, incredible weight gain.
But the results are in, and we are both estatic!
Matt – 28.5 lbs. lost (down 1.5 lbs. from last week)
Debbi – 27 lbs. lost (down 2.5 lbs. from last week)
Matt had a slight advantage this week with a surgery-induced fast followed by a liquid diet for about 24 hours. But despite all the fluids from the IV, and the meals on Saturday and Sunday of fried chicken strips, mashed potatoes, gravy, cake, baked potatoes, rolls, and numerous other taboo foods, he still managed a net weight loss for the week. He has now officially eclipsed the halfway point to his goal. I tried to tell him he lost the weight when they removed Hadji, but he’s not buying that explanation.
I had my own issues last week. I won’t go into details, but suffice to say I was a victim of emotional eating as well as water retention. Although I did make a strong effort during all my time waiting at the hospital to make good food choices, I was concerned that the long periods of inactivity would mean a weight gain for the week. I was pleasantly surprised to see the numbers on the scale still going down!
This week – for the first time in a long time – promises to be a normal week. A week of predictability and routine. Hopefully, it can be a week where we can refocus – for a time – on healthy eating and family time around the table. Our trip to South Padre is not far off…it’s time to get our beach bodies ready!
